Some questions on PCOS (Polysistic ovarian syndrome)?

If my mum has it, then what are my chances? Is it true that a low GI diet can help it? What are some ways to prevent it, what are the symptoms? I know that since my mum has it I have a higher risk because of the genetics. Also does a higher weight increase your risk of getting it?

well i'm assuming if you are using metformin you are diabetic (although metformin is prescribed to PCOS patients as well) and a sign of diabetes is frequent urination, so it could just be a symptom of your condition…not necessarily the …

Have a great day!

Roughly 1 in 18 of women of childbearing age have polycystic ovarian syndrome in some shape or form. Approximately 85% of women with PCOS get pregnant without too much difficulty and hence are never really diagnosed with the condition. However, for the rest of the women with PCOS who do find it hard to ovulate in most cases CAN conceive if they take the right action.

These women often have unhealthy eggs because their periods are not as close together as they should be. Irregular periods like this can often be easily corrected by herbal medication and a few healthy lifestyle changes. These are all described in a great book which I highly recommend getting and will discuss later. It has helped hundreds of people with PCOS get pregnant.

Other clients of mine with PCOS get pregnant by losing weight and trying to maintain low stress levels. Many people are ignorant to just how paramount simple steps like these are to ensuring good health and increasing fertility. It is also worth learning to detect your ovulation period using basal body temperature or cervical mucus. This is all explained in the book I shall recommend.

A lot of women with PCOS get pregnant after using some sort of fertility drug, the most popular of which is Clomid because it is cheap and relatively successful. However, this does not work for everyone and its effectiveness decreases the longer you use it. I would recommend taking herbal medication as opposed to infertility drugs at first since these drugs can have undesirable side effects on the body.

IVF treatment is also an option if all else fails. But this also has risks which are not clearly understood amongst scientists. It does not guarantee success by any means but has been popular and has helped many women with PCOS get pregnant.

All in all, if you are a young woman and are worried about your fertility and PCOS, it is best to act now in improving your lifestyle and chances of conceiving NATURALLY. There has been some great success with Chinese herbal medication which have little to no side effects and eliminate the need for expensive conventional drugs or even surgery such as IVF.

Herbal medication and employing a healthier more peaceful lifestyle will be even more beneficial for women over 35 since at this age infertility medication and IVF treatment has heightened risks and lower chance of success. So women with PCOS get pregnant IF they play their cards right.

Can polycystic ovary syndrome [pcos] cause very painful periods?

i have PCOS, so i have very irregular periods.
i could have a period in a few days or it could be many months away.
i really don't know when it will come.

i always get period pain to some degree, but when i had my last period it was the worse ever.
it was so painful i spent a few sleepness days/nights in bed because i was in too much pain to do anything else.

i tried double doses [twice the recomended limit] of paracetamol, but it didn't work.
i tried double doses [twice the recomended limit] of ibuprofen, but it didn't work.
i tried a hot water bottle, it didn't help.
i tried the heated pads you can stick on your stomach, it didn't help at all.

to cut a long story short…nothing worked!
all i could do was lay on my bed in agony until it went of it's own accord.

now i'm worried it'll be the same whenever i have my next period.
can anyone give me advice?
could a doctor help me?

i wondered if the pain was caused by my PCOS.
i only had it for the first few days of my period.
no pain at all since then.
my pain/period was nearly 6 weeks ago.
could it be my PCOS?

The reason you are taking Metform is because you have PCOS. Metformin is commonly given to people suffering from PCOS because women with PCOS are usually insulin resistant. This basically means that cells in your body are resistant to …

How long during pregnancy should I continue Metformin with PCOS?

I am currently almost 19 weeks pregnant and after my first trimester my doc cut the dose of Metformin to 1 500mg per day (before I was taking 2 per day). She says she wants me to stop after this runs out and she is going to test my Glycose, but I've heard of women that miscarry after stopping Metformin even late during their pregnancy. I know PCOS generally only effects 1st trimester but I seem to think thats wrong. What did you PCOS women do and what was the outcome? If you miscarried, how far along were you?

Thanks

PCOS and METFORMIN, NEED SOME FEEDBACK?

I've been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries. I've been taking Metformin (500mg) a day. I know it's a low dosage, I'm supposed to be taking 1500mg but, my stomach can't handle it. Well I've been TTC for the past 3 months. I started Metformin in mid June. I had regular menstration in Jul, Aug, Sep. I've been having intercourse every month, unprotected to TTC. It's now Oct, I was due for my period on the 20th. I didn't get it and I've take a HPT on Oct 23rd and it was negative. Could it just be that the Metformin has stopped working? or is it to early to tell if I'm pregnant? Feedback is appreciated. ( I would go to the doctor but, I have no insurance. Please no lectures, I know what I need to do, I'm just trying to get opinions.) THANKS!

Is there a Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Cure? One without conventional medicine? The answer is quite simply yes. Many women you suffer this disease believe that they have to live with it their entire lives. They just have to grin and bear it. This is not true and a holistic approach to PCOS will eliminate all your symptoms.

PCOS also known as polycystic ovarian cysts is characterized by a complex set of symptoms, and the cause cannot be determined for all patients. The most common symptoms of PCOS that present are acne, weight problems and abnormal hair growth on the face and body, to name but a few. PCOS is thought of as one of the most common reasons for infertility in females.

PCOS is generally diagnosed from the symptoms stated above and confirmed using blood tests for hormone levels and ultra sound scan of the pelvic region.

Here are a few tips on how to cope with PCOS.

1.Regular Physical Check Ups – Women with PCOS have a higher risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and some forms of cancer. Regularly physical check ups with your doctor will help you stay healthy.

2. Relax – Dealing with weight issues or having difficulty conceiving, PCOS can take a toll on your emotional well-being. Take time out to relax and enjoy doing something you haven’t done in a while. It can make a big difference in how you feel on the inside.

3. Ask questions – Symptoms vary with each person so you really need to ask questions of your doctor and do research on your own to find a regimen that will work best for you. Read up on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome cure and find out that there other alternatives to getting rid of PCOS symptoms other than drugs.

4.Seek help if you are depressed – PCOS can make you feel down, especially given the multitude of physical and emotional challenges that can develop as a result of this disease. If you are feeling more than a little sad and cannot shake the feeling of helplessness associated with the condition, get help.

5. Avoid stimulants – Coffee and other stimulants cause increases in insulin production which have a negative impact on women with PCOS. If you are serious about controlling your insulin levels, you really need to consider your stimulants.

There is a Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Cure. Most women feel they have to live with this disease their entire lives. This is not the case. Get informed and start living a PCOS symptom free life today.

Drugs and risky surgeries to treat ovarian cysts and PCOS sometimes work in a partial way and temporarily but the side effects are nasty. Cure Ovarian Cysts Now has taught ovarian cyst sufferers (including me) how to keep their system free of ovarian cysts and PCOS symptoms using a holistic method. You can find a Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Cure from a nutritionist and a former sufferer who knows from real-world experience exactly how it’s done.

Have a great day!

Anyone pregnant and take Metformin for PCOS?

I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and take 1000mg of Metformin daily. I began Metformin last year due to PCOS, and fell pregnant 2 weeks after starting it after 5 years of infertility due to PCOS. I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks, to which my OB immediately took me off the Metformin. I miscarried at 19.5 weeks and had to deliver a stillborn fetus.
I went back on the Metformin, and conceived 3 months later, and I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with a little boy. I asked my doctor at my last visit whether or not to stay on the Metformin, and he said to cut my dose down to 500mg (1 pill) a day. I am so scared to do that, because I am positive I miscarried the first baby because I stopped it altogether. I have done tons of research stating that Metformin during pregnancy has not been proven to cause complications, and it does help to prevent gestational diabetes. I tested negative for gestational diabetes last week. Anyone stayed on it?

PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome known as PCOS has some very important ramifications for women who are trying to become pregnant. If you are one of the estimated 10% of women who suffer from this condition you may have serious problems when trying to conceive because of the odd hormonal imbalance in your body. This means PCOS and getting pregnant are not a good mix and even if you do become pregnant the chance of miscarriage is much higher than other women!

The problem with PCOS is the increased levels of male hormones such as testosterone that defective ovaries produce. While all women have some testosterone it is only about one seventh of what a man has and the female body is not built to have so much of this hormone. This condition seriously affects a woman’s menstrual cycle as it interferes with the hormone signals that tell the various parts of the body when they need to release the egg and build up the womb to be ready for a possible baby. Women may suffer from irregular menstrual cycles that are too far apart or too close together or sometimes not at all! Picking the right time to become pregnant through all of this and a confused body is very hard and is risky for the baby as well.

So how do you know if you have PCOS? Obviously if your menstrual cycle is irregular you may have PCOS but it also causes other problems such as weight gain, acne, facial hair and mood swings. You can only be sure if you check up with your health care professional but with PCOS being such a widespread condition with an estimated 10% of all women suffering from it to some extent this should be a cause for concern for many.

So if you want a family and are worried about PCOS and getting pregnant you need to be sure you have the condition. IF you do suffer from PCOS then there is some good news, you have options. Recently though modern medicine has only harsh drugs and hormone injections, natural homeopathic treatments have become popular and successful with a great many women who have gone onto to give birth and overcome PCOS by adjusting their lifestyle so the body regulates its hormones better despite the condition.

I have pcos and im taking metformin to conceive, has anyone had any success with this drug?

I am overweight and think it may have something to do with my PCOS as my periods stopped when I was 18. At 18 I started piling on the weight, I have gained 5 stone in 6 years.
Because I am not ovulating I cant fall pregnant. I also struggle to lose weight.
My doctor advised that metformin may helpme lose weight and conceive.
Has anyone been given this drug for simlar cases?

PCOS is a significant cause of infertility. In fact, polycystic ovarian syndrome is the number one cause of infertility in women in the United States.

PCOS increases androgen levels in the ovary, which causes a lack of ovulation, or irregular ovulation. The unnatural level of androgen interferes with the normal growth of follicles, which are cysts carrying eggs (ova) in the ovary. You are born with millions of ova which develop into follicles during normal cycles. One of these follicles eventually releases the egg (ovulation) creating fertility. PCOS reduces your odds of becoming pregnant by reducing the number of ovulation cycles per year. The syndrome can also cause minor ovulation defects; even cycles that appear ovulatory could be less than ideal for fertility if you are not under treatment.

REASONS FOR HOPE

If you want to become pregnant, options are available. Your treatment plan should be customized to your individual situation. The recent explosion of research in PCOS and its connection with insulin resistance has added more and better treatment options for patients. Here is a summary:

1. Clomiphene citrate (trade names, “Clomid” or “Serophene” which is usually prescribed with Metformin (an insulin sensitizer). Ovulation rates are up to 90 percent and average pregnancy rates of 50 percent have been seen.

2. Taking Metformin alone. While this is an option, testing shows that using Metformin alone for fertility treatments is not as effective as combining it with Clomiphene.

3. Injectable gonadotropins. Generally used in cases of failure to ovulate with Clomiphene. These medications include the hormones FSH (trade names Follistim, Bravelle, Gonal-F) or a combination of FSH and LH (trade name Menopur or Repronex). Ovulation rates for injectable gonadotropins are over 90 percent and pregnancy rates are approximately 50 percent.

4. Ovarian drilling. Many women who undergo this procedure will eventually return to having irregular periods.

5. Diet modification and exercise. An example would be a reduced carbohydrate diet, and regular, structured exercise. Of course, you should consider looking at other reasons for infertility before committing to fertility treatments for PCOS.

6. A semen analysis (sperm count) is recommended to see if the problem is with the male. For women, a common procedure is to have the fallopian tubes checked with a rapid x-ray screening test called an HSG hysterosalpingogram), in which dye is injected into the uterus and seen to flow out of the tubes on a monitor screen. Also, a laparoscopy can be performed, in which a small incision is made in the umbilicus and a scope with a video connection is inserted to further evaluate the inside of the pelvis. This is normally a short, sameday surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia.
