(PCOS) Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?

well, i was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago, im really overweight and had a miscarriage and have not been able to concieve since as not had many periods and havnt ovulated. When i was sent to see the specialist she said because my weight was to high they wouldnt help me concieve again and i would need to loose around 4 stone before they would concider helping… i said great fine, will you help me……. (normal question i think) and she just said, your really in a big circle here, to loose the weight you need to lower your blood sugar , but to lower your blood sugar you need to loose weight, i said hmmmmmm that doesnt help and she said i know im sorry but really this is really hard to get out of this circle…
we are now looking into adoption, not just because i havnt concieved yet but because we think we can really help a child, and it seems there are restrictions on weight there also, i just feel helpless! is anyone else in the same situation or managed to get out of it? i just need some advice!!!!!! thank you ( x

Natural human reproduction is a complex process, and there are many stages during which things can go wrong. A small upset at any point along the way can prevent conception, and when a couple are experiencing fertility problems, it can take time for doctors to work out exactly where the difficulty may lie.

Female Fertility Problems

Women may have to go through a barrage of tests in order to get to the root of a female fertility problem, which may be hormonal or physical.

Hormonal problems are often to blame, as an imbalance in the hormones that regulate egg production and ovulation can mean that eggs are not produced every month, or that they are not released at all, or that they do not develop properly.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (often known as PCOS) is a common cause of female fertility problems, as it can disrupt ovulation. Although more than 20 per cent of women have polycystic ovaries, where there are undeveloped follicles (or cysts) just under the surface of the ovaries, these are often not accompanied by any other symptoms and don’t affect fertility. In women who have polycystic ovary syndrome, however, there are a number of other symptoms. The menstrual cycle is often affected and ovulation is usually irregular, infrequent or entirely absent.

About a third of women with PCOS are overweight, and they may also have unwanted facial or body hair, and skin problems such as oily skin or acne. The hormonal imbalances often associated with PCOS mean women may produce higher than normal levels of testosterone and insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels.

PCOS can affect women who have eating disorders, and if you have bulimia you are at risk of developing PCOS even if your weight is normal.

Getting pregnant is not always such an easy task. New and innovative technologies into infertility treatment, assisted reproduction, intrauterine insemination, IVF treatment and egg donation can now explore viable alternatives to traditional pregnancy, but legal matters and financial considerations complicate these choices. Discover the options available to you that are allowing families to bring a baby into their homes.

Is polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos) hereditary?

Evidence is accumulating to suggest that there is likely to be a hereditary basis for PCOS and its associated metabolic abnormalities such as diabetes and high blood fat. Sisters have a 50% chance of having some PCOS features.

Some studies have found that 1 in 3 women with PCOS will have an abnormal glucose tolerance test and that 1 in 10 will be diabetic by age 40. It is important to note that women with PCOS who have a family history of diabetes appear to be at highest risk for abnormalities in glucose tolerance. Women with PCOS who are overweight are particularly prone to diabetes mellitus. Many studies are underway to understand how the tendency for PCOS and glucose intolerance has a genetic basis.

You can read more about it here:

Have a great day!

Can a woman observe Ramadan if they have polycystic ovarian syndrome pcos?

If the syndrome makes you ill severely then you are exempted from fasting, I really do not know about the syndrome so Insha'Allah explain a Little more.

–
Welcome to Islam dear sis =) Oh okay I think know what you are referring to is it when your menstrule cycle exceeds for over the average days? If that is the case then let me know so I can give you some advice Insha'Allah.
–
If that is the case then you should not fast especially since you said you faint, however the ruling about bleeding is different: YOu can pary after 15 days even if you are still bleeding.:

If blood continues to flow and a woman is still waiting to purify herself, and it exceeds 15 days, then she should fall back to her normal period as a reference. Accordingly, she must make ghusl, and start praying, and in addition make up the prayers for the days which she did not pray since the time when her normal period would have ended.

For example, suppose a woman has a normal period of 6 days. However, during a given month blood continued to flow until 15 days had passed, while she is still waiting for the end of the period. In this case she makes ghusl immediately, and starts praying, and prays all the prayers for the 9 days counted from the end of her normal period until she made ghusl.

The reason for this is that the longest that a woman's menstrual cycle can be is 15 days according to madhab Imam Ahmed and many scholars (al-Mughni 1:388). Thus, if the flow continues past 15 days, then everything after the number of days in a normal cycle is considered istihada (which is blood that flows from a woman due to reasons other than menstruation, such as from a burst vein, hemorrhage, etc.)

Regarding making up the missed prayers, she should pray them consecutively in order by intention, in one session, and she can rest if she gets tired.

You will be known as an excused one [Ma'zur]. This is the same for a woman who has continuous discharge. She should make wudhu for every salah, and between the times of each salah, whether bleeding or releasing discharge, she is allowed to perform ther acts of ibadah.

~May Allah Azzajawal purify you in the best manner (ameen)

–
No problem you are most welcome, if you do need any help/advice just email me Insha'Allah

-Takecare Sis
Assalaam Alaikum, I will make du'a for you =)

Does anyone have PCOS (Polly Cystic Ovary Syndrome)?

I kept going to the Doc for about a year complaining to them that something wasn't right with my body cause I keep missing my periods! They asked me finally a different series of Q's and told that they are pretty sure I have PCOS cause I checked off to every symptom that goes along with that dissorder! Well this was about 7 months ago and around that time I also had a PAP done which came back as abnormal..to make a long story short I have CIN2 and had to have part of my cervix removed and the Docs told me that they weren't going to do any further testing or anything like that on PCOS until I was clear of all my precancerous cell!…
My Q is…What kind of testing do most Doctors do to diagnos PCOS? And How is it treated? I was also put on Lexapro and I feel that if the docs would just help me in treating my disorder than I wouldn't have to be on Lexapro!
