and i have had a recent major gain of weight in the past 4 months(with not much change in diet), 20+ pounds and i'm 4'11 so its looking like even more than that. i have struggled with my weight forever and i had lost over 50 pounds.
i am going to the doctor this week and i was wondering if there are any medicines out there that could help me??

Ok so you might find the next few links interesting. These are from around the web, just random snippets that I’ve picked up in my reading, but I found some very cool information in them. You might too. Here goes…

Letrozole versus combined metformin and clomiphene citrate for …

Pregnancy & reversing PCOS should go hand in hand because this condition does not just cause weight gain, acne and hair growth. PCOS also makes it very difficult to be fertile leading to problems conceiving and for some they become completely infertile! Add to this the dangers of being pregnant with PCOS such as miscarriage, gestational diabetes and even maternal death during labor and you will see that reversing PCOS is a must for yourself and your future child.

The underlying cause of PCOS is basically insulin resistance where the body does not deal with glucose as efficiently as it should. Often the body has high levels of the hormone insulin and high blood sugar from glucose at the same time but it is not being used for the right purposes. This leads to weight gain and many side effects of the reproductive system such as ovarian cysts and the release of testosterone more than estrogen which causes all the fertility problems and others.

So knowing this can you get pregnant and reverse PCOS? The answer is YES if you implement some serious lifestyle changes designed to help normalize hormone levels of testosterone and estrogen as well as helping the body become less insulin resistant.

Such methods of reversing PCOS include light exercise daily, eating less processed foods, increasing protein, losing even a modest amount of weight and as odd as it may seem stress relief because stress is a major factor in many illnesses that causes the immune system to be much more sluggish.

PCOS can be a barrier to natural, healthy conception… if you let it! Many women jump straight to infertility pills or even surgery before considering the up and coming herbal medication available. Getting pregnant with PCOS is made much easier with the help of such medication.

The beauty of herbal remedies is the low risk in terms of side effects. Traditional infertility pills such as Clomid have been shown to increase the chances of ovarian cancer. Recent study has shown that amongst women getting pregnant with PCOS in China in 2008, 70% were able to conceive naturally within 2 months of starting the herbal medication!

I highly recommend investing in a guide teaching you exactly how to take such medication to improve your fertility based on your specific needs. I have found an amazing one which I shall discuss later.

Getting Pregnant – PCOS can be cured by Herbal Medication!

So, how does this approach work? PCOS is usually the result of excess estrogen being released in the body. This could be the result of lack of exercise, stress, poor diet or a variety of factors. Specific herbs are selected to tackle this problem. They are there to help regulate the hormones through the body a little better.

Another problem you may have is the pain of literally getting pregnant. PCOS makes intercourse painful and you may even experience bleeding. This is mainly due to the inflammation of tissue in the uterus. Again, particular herbs are selected to help calm these inflamed areas and stop or reduce the pain you feel.

Overall, based on factors like risk, cost and effectiveness, herbal medication seems the best way to start your campaign of getting pregnant with PCOS.

Visit this article on getting pregnant with PCOS to learn more about fertility improvement and find a renowned guide on the subject.

Dr Hammond has helped 100s of women get pregnant naturally.
Read this inspirational account of his client’s struggle against infertility and emulate her success.

If my mum has it, then what are my chances? Is it true that a low GI diet can help it? What are some ways to prevent it, what are the symptoms? I know that since my mum has it I have a higher risk because of the genetics. Also does a higher weight increase your risk of getting it?

It’s estimated that about one-third of infertility cases can be attributed to females.

30 to 40 percent of these cases are caused by irregular or infrequent ovulation and menstruation.

The good news? Nearly all infertility issues caused by irregular menstruation are treatable.

Don’t run straight to the Clomid, though. Before automatically treating ovulation problems with fertility drugs, have a doctor rule out any other medical condition which might be causing irregular menstruation. Diabetes, liver diseases, and hormonal imbalance resulting from abnormalities in the thyroid can all cause irregular menstruation.

Along with sperm deficiencies, ovulation abnormalities (specifically, irregular menstruation) account for two-thirds of infertility problems. A condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the more common underlying causes of ovulation problems and/or infertility. It affects approximately 5-10 percent of women in their reproductive years. Symptoms of PCOS include:

o Irregular menstruation, abnormal menstruation, or no menstruation

o Being overweight or obese, sometimes even when dieting and exercising

o Insulin resistance, which could lead to the development of Type II Diabetes

o Hair growth on the chest and/or face, due to increased testosterone levels

o High blood pressure

o Acne

o High triglyceride levels

o Thinning hair

In the past, due to the sheer variety of PCOS symptoms and a wide range in the severity of these symptoms, PCOS was seldom diagnosed. However, recent medical studies have raised awareness of the condition and several courses of treatment are available.

If you’ve been diagnosed with PCOS and are trying to become pregnant, your doctor may prescribe you a medicine which will induce ovulation. Overweight PCOS sufferers improve their chances of becoming pregnant by losing weight. If elevated insulin levels are to blame for your PCOS, you may be prescribed medicine which will lower your insulin levels. This will make you ovulate regularly and, in turn, regulate your menstrual cycle and increase your chances of becoming pregnant.

Unfortunately, there isn’t always a clear explanation for irregular menstrual cycles or infertility. Nearly 10 percent of infertility cases go unexplained, although these couples often later succeed in becoming pregnant. External factors like stress often have an effect on ovulation, menstruation, and fertility. Participating in stress-reducing activities like meditation or yoga, cutting back on caffeine, or regular exercise can help prevent irregular menstruation. Most importantly, activities like these promote overall health – a must for a comfortable, successful pregnancy!

well i'm assuming if you are using metformin you are diabetic (although metformin is prescribed to PCOS patients as well) and a sign of diabetes is frequent urination, so it could just be a symptom of your condition…not necessarily the …

Have a great day!

Roughly 1 in 18 of women of childbearing age have polycystic ovarian syndrome in some shape or form. Approximately 85% of women with PCOS get pregnant without too much difficulty and hence are never really diagnosed with the condition. However, for the rest of the women with PCOS who do find it hard to ovulate in most cases CAN conceive if they take the right action.

These women often have unhealthy eggs because their periods are not as close together as they should be. Irregular periods like this can often be easily corrected by herbal medication and a few healthy lifestyle changes. These are all described in a great book which I highly recommend getting and will discuss later. It has helped hundreds of people with PCOS get pregnant.

Other clients of mine with PCOS get pregnant by losing weight and trying to maintain low stress levels. Many people are ignorant to just how paramount simple steps like these are to ensuring good health and increasing fertility. It is also worth learning to detect your ovulation period using basal body temperature or cervical mucus. This is all explained in the book I shall recommend.

A lot of women with PCOS get pregnant after using some sort of fertility drug, the most popular of which is Clomid because it is cheap and relatively successful. However, this does not work for everyone and its effectiveness decreases the longer you use it. I would recommend taking herbal medication as opposed to infertility drugs at first since these drugs can have undesirable side effects on the body.

IVF treatment is also an option if all else fails. But this also has risks which are not clearly understood amongst scientists. It does not guarantee success by any means but has been popular and has helped many women with PCOS get pregnant.

All in all, if you are a young woman and are worried about your fertility and PCOS, it is best to act now in improving your lifestyle and chances of conceiving NATURALLY. There has been some great success with Chinese herbal medication which have little to no side effects and eliminate the need for expensive conventional drugs or even surgery such as IVF.

Herbal medication and employing a healthier more peaceful lifestyle will be even more beneficial for women over 35 since at this age infertility medication and IVF treatment has heightened risks and lower chance of success. So women with PCOS get pregnant IF they play their cards right.

Can polycystic ovary syndrome [pcos] cause very painful periods?

i have PCOS, so i have very irregular periods.
i could have a period in a few days or it could be many months away.
i really don't know when it will come.

i always get period pain to some degree, but when i had my last period it was the worse ever.
it was so painful i spent a few sleepness days/nights in bed because i was in too much pain to do anything else.

i tried double doses [twice the recomended limit] of paracetamol, but it didn't work.
i tried double doses [twice the recomended limit] of ibuprofen, but it didn't work.
i tried a hot water bottle, it didn't help.
i tried the heated pads you can stick on your stomach, it didn't help at all.

to cut a long story short…nothing worked!
all i could do was lay on my bed in agony until it went of it's own accord.

now i'm worried it'll be the same whenever i have my next period.
can anyone give me advice?
could a doctor help me?

i wondered if the pain was caused by my PCOS.
i only had it for the first few days of my period.
no pain at all since then.
my pain/period was nearly 6 weeks ago.
could it be my PCOS?

The reason you are taking Metform is because you have PCOS. Metformin is commonly given to people suffering from PCOS because women with PCOS are usually insulin resistant. This basically means that cells in your body are resistant to …

How long during pregnancy should I continue Metformin with PCOS?

I am currently almost 19 weeks pregnant and after my first trimester my doc cut the dose of Metformin to 1 500mg per day (before I was taking 2 per day). She says she wants me to stop after this runs out and she is going to test my Glycose, but I've heard of women that miscarry after stopping Metformin even late during their pregnancy. I know PCOS generally only effects 1st trimester but I seem to think thats wrong. What did you PCOS women do and what was the outcome? If you miscarried, how far along were you?

Thanks
XoXo
