Pregnancy – No IVF for the overweight?

Truthfully, I think this world is too over-populated as it is, without helping certin people bring more children into this world just to consume them in thier problems..obesity is a problem, statisically most obiese women were abused in thier childhoods in some way.How can they teach a child to be healthy when they are not.If they got help with what is making them obiese, and started the work to be healthy from the inside-out then they would lose the weight, and until that someone is doing those things why should anyone help them bring a child into the world? As far as comparring them to gays/lesbians-totally differant..if God wanted you to raise children like that then you’d not need the help in the first place!!Obiese women atleast deserve the chance to GET healthy first!!

How much does PCOS affect ones weight and the inability to lose it?

My so called “friend” (not to my face… but still what a bi*ch) called me a fat **** to my friend and said PCOS is a pathetic excuse for being overweight. It really upset me especially as i eat healthier than her and exercise more often… i DO try but its really hard.

The pain, frustration and even danger of having PCOS are largely ignored by mainstream medicine which has no clear answer or solution to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The harsh drugs that can be prescribed and the lack of direction by many doctors has led to many women asking is there a natural remedy for PCOS?

Before we can delve into remedies we need to make clear what we are dealing with. PCOS is an irregularity of the ovaries that one in ten women suffers from, that causes serious hormone imbalances. A PCOS sufferer has increased levels of male hormones known as androgenic hormones which includes the most commonly known one testosterone and many others. Women’s bodies are not designed to handle too much of this hormone however and it can seriously effect many parts of the bodies chemistry and workings. Known symptoms of PCOS include:

  • Infertility
  • Weight Gain
  • Acne
  • Facial Hair Growth
  • Irregular Menstruation
  • Ovarian Cysts
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Strokes

Not every woman suffers from all of these symptoms of course as it effects everyone in different ways but most women with PCOS suffer from one or more of these problems.

Modern medicine has so far had little lasting affect on PCOS as the hormone balancing drugs they give have harsh side effects and can cause more problems than they solve. They are also only temporary and once you stop taking them the PCOS has not gone.

So what about a natural homeopathic remedy then? While many traditional doctors dismiss claims of naturopaths that a lifestyle change can create dramatic changes in a persons body there is mounting evidence and many testimonials of women who have undertaken natural cures that involve changes of diet, some additional supplements and exercise and sleeping regimes that has changes the way their body works. Proponents of natural remedy believe that giving the body the right fuel can lead to the body self healing and regulating the hormones naturally without the use of harsh drugs.

So is there a natural remedy for PCOS? All signs point to yes on this subject and for those that support natural cures as a solid alternative to modern pharmaceutical medicine this is a real win!

The Most Common Causes Of Female Infertility – General Information

For some women, having a baby is one of the most rewarding experiences in life. That’s why it’s so frustrating when, time after time, pregnancy tests come up negative. Each year, over 2 million women are affected by infertility. For many, the condition is temporary and treatable. Sadly, for some, infertility is a permanent problem.

Most cases of female infertility stem from disorders of the reproductive tract or the ovulation process. Sometimes the cervix is too narrow or becomes blocked, denying sperm access to the woman’s reproductive organs. Blocked fallopian tubes can also prevent pregnancy from occurring. Sometimes the lining of the uterus is too thin, and a fertilized egg cannot attach to it. Congenital defects of the ovaries and uterus can also cause infertility.

Ovulation is a normal monthly occurrence, but some women have underlying medical conditions that keep them from ovulating properly. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, 25% of all infertility cases are linked to ovulation disorders. Sometimes a woman’s ovaries don’t produce enough reproductive hormones to facilitate pregnancy. Such hormonal defects can also occur in the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. Ovulation disorders can cause women to ovulate at irregular intervals, infrequently, or not at all.

There are several diseases which can lead to female infertility. One is pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infections of the reproductive organs which account for the majority of female infertility cases worldwide. Another is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This condition causes the ovaries to produce too many male hormones, called androgens. Endometriosis is another condition which can interfere with fertility. Women with endometriosis experience the irregular growth of uterine tissues. Having the extraneous tissue removed can cause scarring within the uterus, resulting in a surface that fertilized eggs cannot attach to. Tumors in the uterus, whether cancerous or benign, can also prevent reproduction.

Finally, age is a common cause of infertility in women. After the age of 40, women have only a 5-10% of becoming pregnant with each ovulation. While dis

eases might play a role, most age-related infertility is caused by decreased hormone production.

Luckily, for many women, infertility can be reversed through medical care or in vitro fertilization (IVF). The prospects will become even stronger as more research is carried out in the field of female infertility.

PCOS and Infertility: Ten Essential Tip 18/03/10 Posted By: Dr. Drew

Can’t lose weight? Do you have coarse, excess hair on your face, chest or back? Do you suffer from hair loss or acne? Are you depressed? Unable to conceive?

If so, you’re experiencing common symptoms of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). As bad as these symptoms are, the scary thing is if you don’t get some control over this disorder, you have a much higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The standard treatment is to take birth control pills or other medications. Besides undesirable side effects, there is no pill or drug that will stop or cure PCOS.

Unfortunately, polycystic ovary syndrome is not a temporary problem. Because of its genetic roots, you will be prone to PCOS for the rest of your life. Therefore, you could end up taking drugs for the rest of your life. If you don’t want to do that, what else can you do?

To truly come to grips with PCOS, you need to do three basic things: improve your diet, get more exercise, and reduce stress. Here are ten essential tips for making these changes.

Tip #1: Improve your carbs.

Avoid refined carbohydrates such as white bread, white rice, pastries, candy, breakfast foods, bagels, and other refined grain products. These are “bad carbs” that create insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is thought to be a primary cause of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Refined, manufactured foods in general tend to cause you to gain weight, especially around your middle.

Better carb choices are fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and some whole legumes.

Tip #2: Increase protein.

Many PCOS women consume too much refined carbohydrate and not enough protein. High-quality protein helps you to keep your hormones normalized. The best protein sources are fish, poultry, eggs, wild game and extremely lean meat.

Tip #3: Change your fats.

Some fats and oils make your PCOS symptoms worse while others improve them. In excess, supermarket vegetables oils such as corn oil or man-made fats such as “trans-fats” can cause cells to not function properly. Saturated fats found in fatty meats and some dairy products are also undesirable.

Better choices include virgin olive oil, flax oil, cod liver oil, and fish oil.

Tip #4: Eat more veggies.

One of the most important things you can do is to eat more whole vegetables. Try to have at least five vegetable servings a day. Eating a significant quantity and variety of fresh, whole vegetables is a cornerstone of self-help therapy for the many health problems associated with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Tip #5: Control your meal portions.

Americans consume excessively large meal portions. The more you are served, the more you will eat. Trim the size of your meal servings. Eat slowly and enjoy a meal. Wait for 20 minutes. If you are still hungry, then you can go back for another portion.

Tip #6: Have salad or soup at the beginning of some meals.

Medical studies have proven that eating a big salad at the beginning of the meal will result in fewer total calories eaten at the meal. Soup is another excellent food to help you feel full without consuming too many calories. Having soup or salad with a meal will cause you to eat fewer calories and improve your ability to lose weight.

And don’t forget, fewer calories will help you lose weight and improve your fertility.

Tip #7: Exercise daily.

We often feel that we’re too busy or rushed to exercise. However, not exercising is a luxury you cannot afford. PCOS women in particular must exercise more than the average person. Regular exercise has been shown to improve polycystic ovary syndrome and improve fertility.

As a minimum, try to walk or do other exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. More is better. Try a variety of exercise. For example, you might alternate aerobic exercise with weight lifting.

Tip #8: Control stress.

Chronic stress from any source — your job, your spouse, your family, your finances — disturbs your hormone balance, and causes you to gain weight around your midsection. Do what you can to improve any situation that is continually stressful for you. You can also work on changing your attitude towards a situation you perceive as stressful. In addition, be sure to take time for relaxation and restful sleep.

Tip #9: Join or form a PCOS support group.

Isolation is not helpful. Find other women who are going through the same thing you are and communicate frequently to give each other support and encouragement.

Tip #10: Consult with a knowledgeable health professional.

PCOS is a complex disease that is difficult to treat. Find at least one doctor who fully understands what PCOS is and has some innovative ways of treating it.

In conclusion, remember that eating the wrong foods — and living a sedentary and stress-filled life — will delay or prevent your return to good health. If you follow these Ten Tips, you’ll be amazed at how much control you have over PCOS and infertility.

Can pcos cause pregnancy symptoms 9/03/10 Posted By: Dr. Drew

Can pcos cause pregnancy symptoms?

queasyness,lower back pain, bloating,pinkish discharge for two days,tired hurting feet…..neg. pregnancy test…..4wks &6 days.

Many women with PCOS are often prescribed oral contraceptives to help regulate an irregular or absent menstrual cycle.

However, this merely regulates the period artificially, without changing the underlying problem causing PCOS, namely Insulin Resistance. When the contraceptives are discontinued, the PCOS symptoms will persist.

In addition, a new study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility showed that birth control pills may exacerbate Insulin Resistance (1).

The study examined 36 adolescent girls with PCOS. Half the group took an oral contraceptive containing synthetic progesterone and the other half took a birth control pill with an anti-androgenic (a substance that suppresses the male hormone testosterone).

Both groups showed an increase in Insulin Resistance. Furthermore, the group taking the oral contraceptive containing the anti-androgenic showed an increase in both insulin secretion and blood levels of insulin.

With Insulin Resistance being the root cause of PCOS, women must think twice before considering the use of birth control pills to control irregular or absent menses. Not only do oral contraceptives not address the cause of PCOS but they actually may worsen the problem with Insulin Resistance.

It is important to remember that PCOS is a complex syndrome that requires a multi-faceted approach. There isn’t a single pill out there that will cure PCOS. Women with PCOS need to address Insulin Resistance through lifestyle changes like improved diet and a regular exercise regime.

I was diagnosed with PCOS? 8/03/10 Posted By: Dr. Drew

I was diagnosed with PCOS?

I was diagnosed with PCOS? What does it mean and how can I treat it, Can I still fall pregnant? Dr didnt explain much and pushed me out the door after.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms And Treatments.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome or functional ovarian hyperandrogenism is an endocrine disorder that is seen occurring in 22 to 23 percent of the women’s population. It is a fairly common disorder of the hormones that occurs in teenagers and young women. It was first recognized in the year 1935.

In polycystic ovarian syndrome the ovary starts to mature twice the follicles than normal every month. These follicles mature, enlarge but do not release an egg. Normally during every menstrual cycle 5 follicles mature and there is maturation of at least one egg at ovulation, however in PCOS there is no release of an egg. This disease is said to run in families and is more common among the Asian decent women.

The actually cause of PCOS is still unknown but it is said to be related to irregular menstrual period or heavy bleeding. Another cause could be related to the amount of insulin production in your body. More the level of insulin, more are the chances of the insulin regulating the levels of sugar in the body. If there is extra insulin, it causes an imbalance in the hormones, thus making your menstrual cycle run smoothly.

The most common symptoms of PCOS are irregular periods, very light or heavy bleeding, occurrence of acne, hirsutism a condition where girls have extra growth of hair on face, neck, chest and lower abdomen and obesity. For PCOS to be diagnosed properly, one must visit a gynaecologist or an endocrinologist. After finding out the medical history of the patient the doctor will further do a physical check up. This will include a blood test, weight, physical changes like skin darkening, hair growth and gynaecologic examination if you are sexually active person.

PCOS must be treated early or can cause infertility to the young women in the long run, thus refraining her from having any children. If one desires to have children they must get the PCOS treated at an early stage. Many women have children even after developing the syndrome and getting an early treatment. PCOS is a condition that cannot be cured completely but can be taken care of and treated.

The doctor will help you loose weight if you have gained excess of it, through certain exercises and diet plans. This balancing of weight may further help bring the horm

one levels to normal. Medicines like birth control pills and progesterone may be prescribed by the doctor to treat PCOS. These medicines and other creams prescribed by the doctor also help the girl control the excessive growth of hair and the occurrence of acne. However the medication does not always help every woman.

Women PCOS who want to conceive and have failed to respond to fertility drugs can get treated through surgery. A procedure called Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) helps the women conceive. This technique destroys the tissues on the ovaries that produce testosterone and it thus helps in improving the hormone imbalance and ovulation cycle for long, helping women conceive. Treating infertility is one of the most prominent treatments that PCOS women desire for.
